Reaching Cavo Ponta is straightforward if you come prepared for the setting. The route is beautiful, the final descent is slow, and the right expectation matters: this is a remote corner of South Crete, not an easy in-and-out resort approach.
From Heraklion, follow the national road toward Moires. Before Agioi Deka, turn toward Vagionia and Loukia, then continue to Kapetaniana in the mountains. From there, the road descends toward Agios Ioannis and the coast.
The drive from Heraklion is about one hour and thirty minutes in normal conditions, though the final part should always be taken slowly.
